Project Description

There’s no doubt the aeroplane shaped reception building of the Darwin International Airport Resort Complex is an eye-catching concept. The highly original vision from the imagination of designer John Berryman and the Group 1 Consulting Team was brought to life by Sunbuild.

This was an opportunity for Sunbuild to display an attention to detail that set it apart from competitors. Following the project brief by combining a Bali feel with characteristics of the airport, Sunbuild used a vast array of quality finishes including exposed structural steelwork, exposed timber trusses, colorbond cladding, ampelite cladding, natural stone and compressed fibre cement.

In true Sunbuild style, the ambitious project was completed three weeks ahead of the original completion date. Included in the fit-out was a reception area, bar & restaurant with full commercial kitchen, a conference room, offices, and wet areas to service both the building itself and the resort.

The project also included external decks, paving, garden beds, stairs, ramps and ponds, adding the finishing touches to a truly iconic feature of the airport.
