Project Description

In terms of scale and budget, the Charles Darwin Centre is clearly a proud highlight among Sunbuild’s long list of successful constructions.

Charles Darwin Centre has been architecturally designed by world-renowned architects Pie Cobb Freed, developed by Paspaley Pearls Properties and constructed by Sunbuild in a landmark $76 million project.

At the tendering stage, the building was estimated at over $85 million, but Sunbuild was again able to edge out competition by delivering incredible cost-savings of over $10 million by reviewing the structure, mechanical, hydraulics and finishes.

Not content with providing an incredible cost-efficiency, Sunbuild also added additional features including two floors and $1 million worth of basement council car park, providing the client with an asset to use and profit from in the future.

The result is a feature of the Darwin skyline that includes over 16,000m2 and 21 storeys of commercial and retail space, and a five-level car park annex. The high-rise holds a 5-star rating with the Sustainability Energy Development Office, under the NABERS Energy Scheme.

It’s easy to see why Sunbuild’s Directors are so proud of this project. To remove $10 million, add value and maintain quality and integrity is an incredible feat on a project of this vast scale.
