The $15 million, six-level, 136-room Darwin Airport Inn incorporates various facilities including executive style apartments, dorm rooms, conference rooms, offices, reception, day spa, minimart, commercial kitchen & external pool and bar area.
The variety of fitouts and purposes wasn’t the main difficulty for Sunbuild in this instance: it was the tight turnaround required due to the wet season. The challenge was met, firstly by engaging the services of their own engineers to meet deadlines while guaranteeing quality.
Secondly, the company innovated with savvy solutions such as the combination of transfloor precast concrete formwork panels and Ritek structural formed wall systems.
This was a first for the Northern Territory and set a new benchmark that has since inspired other companies—another example of Sunbuild developing technology and alternative solutions in the construction industry.
