A 32-week design and construct project, George Brown Botanic Gardens Visitor Centre was a pleasure to complete in one of Darwin’s most iconic spaces.
Sunbuild engaged the highest quality architects and contractors to create and build a space fitting of the natural surrounds, ensuring the materials and design were considered and respectful to both the environment and community.
The timber sourced for the project was from an Indigenous corporation in East Arnhem Land, a specialised Northern Territory hardwood. Throughout the design development phase, Sunbuild liaised very closely with the Larrakeyah People as the build took place on Larrakeyah Land. Indigenous names for flora and fauna were also integrated into the centre for the future generations.
Sunbuild’s Indigenous participation at just under 14% demonstrates our continued commitment to the ongoing education of Darwin’s Indigenous communities.
